THE
WINTERIZATION
PROJECT
To support the Winter Residency, Queer Culture Arts Foundation introduces the Winterization Project—an initiative designed to deepen the cultural ecosystem of Fire Island Pines by strengthening connections to its seasonal rhythms. This project enables homes—whether already equipped for winter or thoughtfully adapted over time—to become spaces where creativity can flourish during the quieter months.
Some homes may be ready now, offering immediate shelter and inspiration for artists working in solitude. Others may require upgrades to become viable winter spaces. The Winterization Project looks to support that transition, helping homeowners bring their spaces into off-season readiness and, in doing so, contribute to a broader artistic and communal vision.
By participating in this project, homeowners become part of a shared cultural infrastructure—one that honors the departures and arrivals, the stillness and activity, that define life on queer Fire Island. Together, we are nurturing a dual-season ecosystem where art can take root in both heat and quiet, and where community is built not just in the height of summer, but across every moment in between.

SUBMISSION
Already Winterized? Submit your property to be considered for immediate use in The Winter Residency.
Need Winterization? Submit your home for consideration and support as we build a fund to make more homes off-season ready.
Both pathways contribute to a vibrant cultural ecosystem where seasonal rhythms feed one another. Submissions are open year-round.

SELECTION PROCESS
Property owners complete a brief submission form outlining their home’s readiness and availability. For homes already winterized, the process focuses on confirming location, condition, and seasonal lease terms. For homes needing winterization, submissions are evaluated based on structural potential, location, and future residency viability.
As funding becomes available, QCAF will prioritize winterizing homes that deepen artistic access and community impact.

COMMUNITY IMPACT + RENEWAL
Each participating home supports not only artists but a larger vision of dual-season community. Owners offering their homes enter into a unique lease agreement (unique to each relationship), enabling the Winter Residency to thrive in the off-season.
Renewals are welcome and encouraged—helping create continuity for residents and allowing the program to grow its creative and communal reach, year by year.
