IGNITING CREATIVITY
A Dialogue-Driven Approach to Creative Residency
At QCAF, we believe that the most powerful residencies begin with conversation. We don’t follow rigid timelines or application deadlines—instead, we invite artists, designers, writers, chefs, culture workers, historians, and archivists to reach out with ideas, questions, or practices they hope to explore in collaboration with us.
This open submission model reflects our belief that queer creation thrives when given space, trust, and mutual intention. Whether your project is deeply developed or just emerging, what matters most is alignment with QCAF’s mission: to preserve, cultivate, and reimagine queer cultural life.
How it Works
Propose a project: We invite submissions in the form of a proposal, inquiry, or creative outline. It can be written, visual, or multimedia.
Start a dialogue: If your vision resonates with our mission and seasonal capacity, we’ll begin a conversation to shape a possible residency.
Determine timing and duration: Stays typically range from 1 to 3 weeks to 1 to 3 months and are scheduled based on project needs, alignment with existing programming, housing availability, and weather accessibility.
Design a mutual experience: Together, we’ll shape a residency that supports your goals while contributing to the wider cultural work QCAF is doing.
What We Look For
We support projects that are:
Rooted in queer memory, experimentation, or preservation.
Aligned with archival practice, creative research, or storytelling.
Seeking slower rhythms of creation, reflection, or exploration.
Open to contributing to collective knowledge or public engagement.
We welcome artists at all stages of their creative lives, including those whose work challenges traditional forms or has never been formally invested in before. We know what it feels like to live in survival mode—to create in the margins, under pressure, without support. This residency exists to shift that. If your work is grounded in self-as-sacredness, intention, curiosity, and cultural care—we want to hear from you.
What You’ll Receive–and Contribute
QCAF residencies are not meant as retreats—they are exchanges. While we provide time, space, and support, we also invite residents to:
Deepen their practice through access to archives, dialogue, and local history.
Share knowledge with peers, past residents, or the public (optional).
Document and contribute elements of their work to our living archive.
Help imagine what a future for queer culture might look like, together.
Importantly, we do not view this as a one-time opportunity. Each residency marks the beginning of an ongoing relationship—one rooted in mutual support, artistic evolution, and collective growth. We are building a more sustainable and collaborative model of "representation" for queer artists, designers, writers, and cultural workers. Through continued partnership, we aim to support, promote, and amplify each resident’s work well beyond their time on the island.
To begin, send a letter of inquiry, concept brief, or proposal by the link below. Let us know where your practice stands and what you’re reaching toward. We’ll take it from there.
